6:00 pm, Room MAL633 Malet Street

HIV/AIDS Knowledge and Society

Chair: Roland Chesters, writer and disability development consultant

How would you feel if you were told that you had two weeks to live? That was the life-changing prognosis given to Roland Chesters. In this session, he will help us to understand the complex landscape of AIDS politics and how violence is embedded within the social discourse of AIDS. The key reading material will be Chesters’ book Ripples from the Edge of Life and the introductory chapter of AIDS and the Body Politics by Catherine Waldby.

Chesters R, Ripples from the Edge of Life, (SilverWood Books, Bristol, 2018)

Waldby C, AIDS and the Body Politic: Biomedicine and Sexual Difference, (Routledge, New York, 1996)

* Due to copyright regulations, photocopies will only be available during the session. Alternatively, please contact Fernando Lanza prior to the session to obtain a copy.
